Re: Curt Bentzin "Primarflex" Demontage, Wartung und Reparatur.
The red marked lever avctivates the release mechanism, after the mirror has jumped up. The release button (with the help of a lever and a spiral spring) elevates the mirror, and the mirror controls the release mechanism. This principle can also be found in the Asahiflex and later Japanese cameras.
Re: Curt Bentzin "Primarflex" Demontage, Wartung und Reparatur.
Hi Roland,
And sorry, I have been very busy with work and school. Thank you for the pictures. I was in for a surprise when I opened the back and tried to move the curtain by hand like you suggested. It felt very weird trying to move it by hand, it did not budge at all. And well...
If I remove the 1st curtain shutter speed selector, one small charging wheel and turn the 2nd curtain shutter speed selector with a tool, I can finally see the problem
Both of the curtains are on top of eachother!! This is why I did not see anything when I looked inside the camera from the lens board side and tried to move the 2nd curtain up and down. So the first curtain is up and the second curtain is down, they are on top of each other in the same rails. I wanted to post this as soon as I got something to tell to you. I do not yet know where the 1st curtain is stuck, but this does not look like a very good situation.
Re: Curt Bentzin "Primarflex" Demontage, Wartung und Reparatur.
I wound up the 2nd curtain, so gear configuration is now this:
When I charged the 2nd curtain, it also charged the mirror - I used tweezers to release it back up, so I can see the curtains.
First curtain is still on the way and I cannot move it. I am starting to think if I am just doing something wrong now? Why doesn't it trigger with the small gear removed?
View from back, curtain seems unharmed:
If I wiggle the 1st curtain winding gear, the curtain wiggles. But I cannot make it move "down", like it would go when the shutter is released. I can only turn it more up. But I am still a bit afraid to move it more up, since it seems to be completely up already. I am starting to wonder if I just have to turn it a bit up more before it can release? Is there a latch that checks that the curtain is completely up before releasing?
Re: Curt Bentzin "Primarflex" Demontage, Wartung und Reparatur.
I got the 1st curtain charging wheel to turn back, but the curtain did not move. All I did was create slack in the ribbons of the 1st curtain.
So either the curtain bar is stuck at the top, or the spring does not pull it. I am starting to think it is still the spring in the bottom, since the curtain feels slack. If the spring was connected, it should pull the curtain tight I think.
Re: Curt Bentzin "Primarflex" Demontage, Wartung und Reparatur.
What I am thinking is that the spring inside the lower curtain roller has come off. I have had this happen in a Zorki once before, I could not get the shutter to self-cap under winding so I tried to adjust the curtain tension. I went too far. The spring inside the roller jumped from it's slot and had to be reseated. Sounds simple but I had to take everything apart. Like this
I hope it's something else, since it was a big job to get there. Do you have any ideas other than this spring? Also, how many screws to remove to get to the curtains? You showed a picture where almost all of the gears are removed, is that necessary or can I get the entire mechanism out of the camera shell?
Re: Curt Bentzin "Primarflex" Demontage, Wartung und Reparatur.
It's not necessary to remove the red marked screws in order to separate the whole mechanism from the shell! The screws for holding together the mechanism with the shell can be found near the corners. You have to remove both escapement mechanisms.
Re: Curt Bentzin "Primarflex" Demontage, Wartung und Reparatur.
mazdaro:Before doing so, you can check the spring for curtain 1 (C 1):
In your earlier photo, the curtain wheels 1 and 2 are reversed to what I have. I guess I will have to check C2, but direction is same? The wheel you have marked 1 is actually for my 2nd curtain (closing curtain) and the wheel 2 is for the 1st curtain (opening curtain). Or maybe my camera is even more messed up than I think
For taking the entire mechanism out of the shell, it's just the shutter button and the arrows in the far corners?
